What does the SmartWip digital twin provide?
The SmartWip digital twin projects you into the future from the current situation, and forecasts the state of your workshop in the next days. It also gives you visibility on the lead times of each Work Order, on the queues’ congestion, and the quantities that will be produced within each family.
Does SmartWip have to be connected to my ERP or MES ?
No, SmartWip can be deployed in stand-alone mode, with production orders created and managed manually directly in the application.
What data do I need to transmit to SmartWip if I want to interface it with my information system (ERP, MES, etc.)?
SmartWip is based on the best practices of visual management on the shop floor, so it will use the information that is useful to you in your day-to-day production management. SmartWip is highly customizable, and each user can make his or her own choices in terms of the data to be interfaced. For example, order or production order numbers (or repair order numbers in the case of MRO), customer names or codes, item codes, item families, part quantities, batch numbers, references to routings and their operations, as well as their operating times, etc…
Is SmartWip planning and/or scheduling software?
Both Yes and No… the purpose of SmartWip is neither to offer automated scheduling of production orders suggested by MRP (PIC/PDP/CBN) nor to optimize their sequence on the basis of pre-set constraints. SmartWip is first and foremost a workshop management tool designed to provide visibility of work in progress and queues on the shop floor. However, it also incorporates a simulation engine that continuously calculates the forecast release dates for finite-capacity production orders. Thanks to this real-time visibility of the position of production orders and their forecast delivery times, users can easily make informed scheduling and control choices, knowing instantly the impact on delivery schedules/performance/fulfillment of commitments.
Is SmartWip accessible remotely?
Yes, if the application is installed on a server with remote access, it can be used from any workstation that can connect to it, locally or remotely. As the application is fully integrated into the customer’s IT ecosystem, it complies with the security and access rules in place.
Can several users work simultaneously with SmartWip?
Yes, SmartWip is designed for collaborative use, so it can be used by different people who contribute to the management of the business, from different workstations and at the same time.
Can we use SmartWip without using CONWIP?
The Origins of SmartWip
📅 Initially, SmartWip was designed to digitize paper CONWIP workshop management boards. This development was in response to the users of the CONWIP pull system method who wanted to digitalize their processes.
💡 The software aimed to meet the specific needs of the industrial users of that time for managing and planning workshops using the pull system method.
Evolution of Needs and Software
🔄 Over time, the demands of users and the capabilities of our planning tool have evolved. Thanks to regular updates, SmartWip has technically adapted to support not only the CONWIP method but also other flow management methods.
Can I use SmartWip even if I use the push flow system?

🔧 SmartWip stands out for its flexibility and open approach. It functions like an interactive whiteboard where users have complete freedom to configure their columns, name their categories, and choose the tickets to integrate. This software imposes few restrictions, making it compatible with various flow management methodologies, including the push flow system.
🏆 This is also why SmartWip can be considered a light MES for planning. Close to the field, simple, and highly adaptable, it complements traditional IS (MES, ERP, APS, …) which have a broader functional coverage but are also more complex, more specific, and more expensive!
